SoCal Scholars Launches Continuing Education Courses

We are excited to launch SoCal Scholars, the new continuing education arm of SoCalASTA.  We've heard from many travel agents that they have a need for continuing education to help them be more successful selling travel.  So we're taking a few courses from The Travel Instititue and presenting them in an in-person and online format to help you keep on task and finish the course in 2 months!  Completing this program will give you your Destination Specialist - Hawaii designation.  It's also the first step to becoming a Certified Destination Specialist and can be counted as an elective for the CTA (Certified Travel Associate) program.

Hawaii Destination Specialist:
February 23 - April 10

Study groups makes working through the course so much easier.  For seven weeks, there will be a 60-minute webinar session led by a different guest presenter.  On April 10, the group will come together again for live testing and a graduation reception.  Here's the schedule of topics:

Date Topic
Thursday, 2/23 Hawaii Overview
Thursday, 3/1 Kauai
Thursday, 3/8 Oahu
Thursday, 3/15 Maui
Thursday, 3/22 Molokai and Lanai
Thursday, 3/29 Hawaii-The Big Island
Thursday, 4/5 Selling Hawaii, Itinerary Planning, and Supplier Partners
Tuesday, 4/10 Testing & Graduation Reception @ SoCalASTA Meeting, Andaz West Hollywood

Cost:  The cost of this program includes the Hawaii Destination Specialist course from The Travel Institute AND the online study group sessions listed on the schedule above!

SoCalASTA - ASTA's Southern California Chapter

Founded in 1935, SoCalASTA is the largest domestic chapter of the American Society of Travel Agents.

The chapter’s geographic territory includes Kern, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties in California, and Clark County in Southern Nevada.

SoCalASTA is undoubtedly the most active of ASTA’s chapters and currently meets on the second Tuesday of every month.  In addition, a number of special events are included on the chapter’s annual calendar.

SoCalASTA was a founding member of the California Coalition of Travel Organizations (CCTO) and appoints two members to the CCTO board.  Chapter members participate in an annual California Legislative Day in Sacramento including visits with their local elected officials.

SoCalASTA is managed by an elected Executive Board including the president, vice president, treasurer, secretary, and past president.  A number of non-voting committee co-chairs help organize and implement the programs and activities of the chapter.

Vision:  To build a strong network of travel professionals in Southern California.

Mission:  To enhance the professionalism and profitability of our members.
